We do this all the time: Foambox

Welcome the the first instalment of a brand new series of Animal Calls called "We do this all the time"! Named after a much repeated lyric by The Mae Shi (my 36th favourite international band of the past decade) this new series will feature photos from parties my friends and I have thrown/ played/ danced at. Actually it's hardly a new series, I already do this all the time, but from now on, whenever I post photos of the gang and I doing the stuff we do, it'll be under a banner featuring a happy blue kitten and little girl with a beard. For We Are Awesome's complete coverage of the event head here!

Next Dynamo announced! Dynamo Jo Fo: Attack of the Electric Ghosts

Yo yo robots!

The next episode of our technologically superior robocore parties is less than a month away!

After the madness of "The Humans are Dead" we're working pretty hard to bring you something even awesomer, and it comes in the form of the night's healing act. Flying in all the way from Birmingham in the UK, we're every excited to be presenting your eyes and ears with the fight pop carnage of Johnny Foreigner.

If you're not sure who Johnny Foreigner are, a good place to get acquainted with them would be here where you can download a free 5 track sampler, especially complied to introduce the band to the awesome people of South Africa.

Alongside our international healiners, we're also pretty damn ecstatic to be able to host an absurd line-up of supporting acts. From our favourite post-apartheid noise machines, to the finest audio selection droids in town, there are too many to mention now, so just check out the event here.

Alongside this super team of bands and DJs, you can also expect the usual overload of décor, visuals and lights. And on top of all this, the best dressed robotos of the night will be winning give-aways from 5 of Gauteng's most excellent fashion and art punk DIY brands; Hello Fox, Delight, Mikado, KRNGY and Ke Ai.

I love getting antlered in the ear.

About 35 minutes of last night were really, really rad.

You are invited! Foambox!

Welcome to a brand new So many Animal Calls feature called "You are invited!".

Actually I do this all the time, but from here on out every time I say you should come to a party, the post will be crowned with a little banner of a cat riding on the back of a tortoise. Neat huh?

For this debut episode I'm inviting you to a party I'm really looking forward to! Dogcox, after throwing 3 totally mental parties last year, are hitting 2010 hard, starting with this foam party.

I'll be joined by my main man Matt Suttner as well as Dogbox resident Moe Joe and new-school DJ/ old-school brother, Peter Rocka!

Link Highlight: Doktrine!

Meet M.J. Like most of the awesomest kids I know, M.J. is from Pretoria. Not to say I haven't come across my fair share of fantastically cool, creative kids from around the country. It's just that for every one of them i know of two from Pretoria.

Maybe it has something to do with growing up in the shadow of the shitty, ultra-conservative, genrally crap mentality that Pretoria was built on. Maybe it's the aftermath of Seedys, Nile Crocodile and the once complete anarchy that was TUKS FM. Maybe it's kids devolving super powers to resist evil radiation emanating from the voortrekker monument. Whatever the reason, Pretoria has over the past few years been birthing and (as in the case of M.J.) attracting some of the most creative, fun, rockandrollasfuck individuals I've ever had the pleasure of sharing dancefloors, stages and all around awesome times with.

But yeah, this post isn't supposed to be a chance for me to fan out over Pretoria, it's supposed to be a chance for me to fan out over Doktrine.

Doktrine are masters of making awesome stuff for your eyes. Major fixations with bad-ass wildlife, retro porn, cosmic psychedelia and wolves help them churn out some of the coolest illustration, graphic design, motion graphics and photography in town.

I really won't start fanning out about this stuff too much because honestly, nothing I can say can really do justice to the insane radness that shoots out of the big wolfs mouth like so much godzilla fire. So instead I offer you a few pictures and a video, a tiny fraction of the awesomeness Doktrine have been bringing into the world over the past few years.

OUT OF THE LAW - HAVOC VULTURES from Doktrine Beeldradio on Vimeo.

Head here and here for previously Animal called about Doktrine photography, check out M.J's hard-art-concept-core-rock-band Havoc Vultures and obviously pay a visit to Doktrine HQ!
